“….and let me also say, some of us behave as if the president, the governors are superhuman, we are normal human beings, we also have challenges. So let us not think that because we are governors or president we are superhuman. No.
We are not God we mere mortals like any of us here. So that should also make us play down on the way we look at certain issues.” – Udom Emmanuel, Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

Some may wonder why this is significant. It is indeed a key statement towards shifting the mindset especially found in developing nations where citizens see Government as God.

Yes, Government has its role it must play, but Government is not God. and leaders are not God. Hopefully Governor Emmanuel’s statement will help to remind Nigerians that leaders are just men and women in leadership. Perhaps this statement will help each Nigerian to realize that he or she cannot afford to sit back and simply outsource every expectation to the leaders. We all have a role to play in building the nation we desire.
